a terrible death to die, a terrible death to die, a terrible death to be talked to death, a terrible death to die. We sold the cow, MOO! we sold the cow, MOO! We have no need, for your bull now!”

A letter from our exiting deans:

Dear Campers, Staff, and avid Lakeside Institute Supporters:

This year has definitely been one for the books!

Trying to put into words where we started in January and what has happened this year is tough. As some of you may have realized, 2020 was supposed to be an amazing camp year. Max and I worked endlessly to prepare for the “Roaring 20’s” for camp this year, as our final year as Deans of Lakeside Institute. Our plans for this theme started our first year of service, but in April, everything changed. We mourned the loss of being able to have camp in person together, prior to the official announcements. Our hearts, like yours, were broken.

Hearts do mend, and when you put your trust in God, a solution will be given. Max and I prayed from the moment the decision was made as to how we would move forward. We as a community are truly blessed with having an amazing staff and non-staff supporters. The plan to develop the online camp was hard. But our staff camp together to find a way! Max and I thank you immensely for being there through these trying times.

We would like to thank Pastor Karen Muntzing for joining us on this virtual journey and leading us with amazing messages. We would also like to thank Eric Farnbauch for giving his time to create the videos you saw each day. And to our campers, we thank you for joining us on the journey

We don’t know what Lakeside Institute 2021 will look like. The only thing we know is that Max and I will no longer be your deans. Together Max and I have been Deans for the last four years between Midwinter and Institute. I am truly blessed that God put you in the Lakeside Institute family and I’ve had you as my partner during this time. Our 2020 last year campers, please stay tuned to see what options we can offer next year.

As of now there are no definite answers but know that the staff is still here for you and you can reach out to us at any time. Our new 2020 campers, please know that we appreciate you coming on this new virtual ride with us and cannot wait to hopefully see you in person next year!

Now with great pride, we would like to officially announce the next Lakeside Institute Deans. For the next three years Brian Riggs and Kim Smallman will be taking the lead of Institute. Please congratulate them for their new positions, and please pray for them as they tackle the unknown. We can not wait to see what the next few years bring with Brian and Kim as deans.

Thank you all.

Shalom my friends,

Megan Vansteenberg and Max Andrick

Former Lakeside Institute Deans

Introducing our new deans:

Dear Lakeside Family,

First and foremost, we would like to thank Max and Megan for all their love, dedication, and hard work that they have put into leaving their mark on Lakeside Institute! We can confidently say they are leaving a lasting mark on Lakeside Institute, and have done an amazing job over the past 3 years. We are beyond blessed to be able to call both Max and Megan close friends, and can’t wait to work with them as we make this transition going into Lakeside Institute 2021.

Along with that we would like to thank all of you. Even in all the chaos and uncertainty that 2020 has brought us, we believe Lakeside Institute has proven this year more than ever that this family and this ministry is one that not only can survive, but will continue to thrive no matter what the world throws at us. We truly believe that this is not only because of the love and faith we all have placed in God, but also because of the love and dedication that each and everyone one of you have poured into this ministry over the past 105 years.

Kim and I have been a part of the Lakeside Institute family for over 20 years combined, and it is a great honor to have this opportunity to lead and serve as you’re Lakeside Institute Deans for the next 3 years. While we do not know what the future holds for us, we can promise you that we will do everything we can to continue to build and grow the legacy of Lakeside Institute.

We cannot wait to get started working with Max and Megan along with other members of the Lakeside Institute family to begin planning Lakeside Institute 2021! We ask that you stay tuned for updates on what we are doing and what is coming next.

We can’t wait to see all your shinning faces, and hear all your beautiful voices soon! (Even if it is the announcements song…) We love all of you!

Thank you and Shalom,

Brian Riggs & Kim Smallman
